Friday Poetry: Increasingly Later and Later Edition

December 10, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Sorry. But here is a poem to make up for my tardiness. Better late than never (?)

By Emily Dickinson (so, of course, it has no title, and I refuse to give it one!)

Pain — has an Element of Blank –
It cannot recollect
When it begun — or if there were
A time when it was not –

It has no Future — but itself –
Its Infinite contain
Its past — enlightened to perceive
New Periods — of Pain.

As a side note: if my former manager is reading this, please note that Emily Dickinson is the only one who has ever had permission to use dashes this freely in any medium. So, please, learn some new punctuation marks. Thank you.
